dark paris, shining paris
place de la concorde at night -- a magical walk through paris brought us here very late in the evening on our first real exploration of the city. introduced to us from the seine by batobus in the fading light of evening, familiarized by strolling along the banks from notre dame and l'ile de la cite past the louvre and through the tuileries, culminating here -- i knew when nathalie ran through the mad traffic to the fountain, being drawn with her almost as though by a fast current, laughing and peering into the brilliant water -- i would always treasure this.
and so i have.
i have many sublime memories of france, but few so luminous.
