hydrolysis catalysis breakthrough may revolutionize energy generation

chemists at the massachutsetts institute of technology publishing in science have discovered a cheap and efficient means of catalyzing hydrolysis, which might be used in conjunction with photoelectric solar cells or a wind turbine and a fuel cell to store the energy of the sun for anytime use in the average household.

if it is as good as it sounds -- which is of course a very considerable question -- there is no way to emphasize how revolutionary the process might be. it solves the primary drawback of solar power, and could replace the central-origination-and-transmission model of today's power grids with what amounts to a network of cheap, low-maintenance household power plants. it certainly bears watching.
